Meet Dr. Elliot Kirstein (Cincinnati, OH)

Dr. Kirstein received his doctorate from the Massachusetts College of Optometry in 1976. He is the Founder and Director of Harper’s Point Eye Associates in Cincinnati, Ohio and the Founder and Director of the Midwest Optometric Society.

He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Association of Vision Research in Ophthalmology. Dr. Kirstein is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the Optometric Glaucoma Society and a Charter Member of the Ocular Surface Disease Society of Optometry.

Dr. Kirstein has authored scientific studies and published several scientific articles and textbook chapters. He has lectured and published on glaucoma management, intraocular pressure measurement, ocular surface disease management, visual field analysis, and contact lenses. During the early development of soft contact lenses in the 1970s, he was a clinical investigator for Wessley Jesson.

He has served as the glaucoma consultant for Paradigm Medical Industries in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the United States glaucoma research coordinator for Ziemer Ophthalmology, AG, Switzerland. During his work with Ziemer Ophthalmology, he worked as a consultant with NASA, dealing with their interest in Spaceflight Associated Neuro-Ocular Syndrome. He has served on the Speakers Alliance for Alcon, Allergan, Aerie, Merck, Pfizer, Quantel, Reichert, Visionix, Heidelberg Engineering, and Haag Streit, USA.

Dr. Kirstein is an Assistant Clinical Professor at The Western College of Optometry and an Associate Clinical Professor at Illinois College of Optometry. In August 2021, Dr. Kirstein was ranked #66 in Newsweek Magazine’s list of America’s Best Optometrists.
